First initiated by Rev Irvin Rutherford in 1983, it is an annual gathering of students and staff from halfway houses in Asia, especially from Malaysia and Singapore for a time of spiritual enrichment, fellowship and learning from one another.
The 38th ACTS Camp 2023 was held in Port Dickson from 6th November to 9th November 2023. More than 160 participants from 13 halfway houses, of which 3 are from Singapore. The speaker, Rev Dr David Barnabas, senior pastor from Faithful City Church, Penang was involved in drugs for more than 15 years before he became a Christian. In 1985 he came to know Jesus and undergone 2 years rehab programme and served in Teen Challenge JB for 4 years.
The highlight of the whole camp was when students worked together to put up performances like songs and skits that carried the message of turning back to strengthen the brethren. The women from one of the homes recited an impressive 10 minutes of Chinese scriptures from memory. It was not only a time of laughter but also a time to reflect to continue to carry our brethren’s burdens.
The four participants from Teen Challenge Singapore: ex-staff, Eddie Joseph who also sits in ACTS committee, 2 present staff, Rena Chan and Marisa Lim and one of our ex beneficiary, Kenneth Lee. We truly enjoyed the generous hospitality and fellowship from our Malaysia and Singapore counterparts. What impressed us was that the students were very much involved in serving during meal times; leading in worship; participating and helping in games activities in good sportsmanship and sharing freely about their lives in their respective homes.
We do hope the next 39th ACTS camp more staff and residents from our centre can experience the power of God and the fellowship of the saints with brothers and sisters who have gone through the same struggles as them.
